Advocase is very pleased and excited to announce the addition of Laura Scheuermann, MSW, Vocational Specialist, to our staff. Laura brings with her over 10 years of experience in the field of providing vocational services to individuals who have disabilities, including having facilitated a NYS Department of Health Grant entitled “Health Workers Training Initiative” at a home care agency as well as over three years of experience in the field of Workers Compensation and No-fault auto. Laura’s background education includes a Bachelor’s Degree in Heath Science with a Concentration in Substance Abuse from SUNY Brockport, a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work from SUNY Brockport and a Master’s Degree in Social Work from Syracuse University. Laura is currently preparing for CCM and CRC certification.
We look forward to the expansion of our continuum of care to include Vocational Rehabilitation services to claimants who have been injured on the job or in an auto accident. Vocational Rehabilitation services include vocational assessment, labor market surveys, development of a resume, interview preparation, referral to VESID as well as other local employment programs, job lead identification, development of an alternative occupational goal, counseling and encouragement to locate suitable employment. Laura can also contact employers that claimants state they have applied for work with in order to document their job search or lack thereof.
Vocational Rehabilitation services help injured workers to find employment, encourage claimants to accept a reasonable Section 32 settlement or SLU which can greatly decrease the cost of a claim.
Vocational Rehabilitation services can also provide the documentation needed to prove voluntary removal from the labor market which can result in a dismissal of a claim, releasing the carrier from all responsibility for the injury.
